Demo File For Basic Particle Rendering Tutorial

To build from scratch the demo file used in the tutorial, use the following steps:

  • In the Time Configuration dialog, set your Frame Rate to Film and Length to 100 frames. Turn off Real Time.
  • In the Customize|Units Setup dialog, set System Units to centimeters. Display units can be left as generic.
  • At the origin (0,0,0) create a Teapot with Radius = 20 and Segments = 32. Leave all other values at default settings.
  • Create a default PF Source icon anywhere in the scene.
  • At the origin (0,0,0) create a Wind spacewarp. Set Force Strength to 0, and set Wind Turbulence to 0.02, Frequency to 0.3, and Scale to 0.08.
  • Create a default Target Spotlight toward the front right of the scene (approximately located at 100,-100,100) and pointing at the origin (0,0,0).
  • Open Particle View (keyboard shortcut “6”).
  • Select and Delete each of the following operators: Position Icon 01, Speed 01, Rotation 01 and Shape 01. (These default operators are not relevant to the current example). You should be left with Birth 01 and Display 01 in Event 01.
  • Drag a Position Object operator into Event 01, below Birth 01. Click Add and select your Teapot. Leave Location to “Surface”.
  • Drag a Force operator below Position Object 01. Click Add and select your Wind spacewarp.
  • Click Display 01 and set Type to Dots, for less screen clutter.
  • Click Birth 01 and change Emit Stop to 0. Set Amount to 5000.
  • Click PF Source 01 and set Quantity Multiplier: Viewport % = 100.0.
  • Hide the Teapot object

Particle View should reflect the changes:

Your viewport should show a particle-covered teapot shape:
