Change the Hostname in License File

Our license file contains the host name that the two license server programs will use to speak to each other. Sometimes it makes sense to adjust this, either because the name of the machine has changed, or the programs were never able to use the machine’s name (this is common on OS X).

To change it, you’ll need to edit the license file. The first step then is to locate Thinkbox.lic, and you can find out where it was installed by using our referene of the location of installed files. You may need to adjust the write permissions of the file if you are modifying the installed license.

With the license file open, you’ll see the host name to the right of SERVER is your hostname and MAC address. Here is an example:

SERVER license-server 123456ABCDEF

With that example, the name of the machine is “license-server”. You can change this text to the new name of the machine, an IP address, or “this_host”. The last option is a special case and will use whatever the current name of the machine is.

Note that while you can change the host name, but carefule as you cannot change the Ethernet MAC address (“123456ABCDEF” in the above example). The MAC address is used to encrypt the FEATURE and UPGRADE lines in the rest of the license file. If you change the MAC, the entitlements in the license file will no longer be vaild.
