Frequently Asked Questions¶
Which OSes are supported by our server? System Requirements?¶
It can be used on Windows, macOS, and Linux Operating Systems. Although the License Server will work on the systems listed below, some are end-of-life. We recommend using an operating system that still receives security patches. The versions supported are:
- Windows:
Windows 10 or Windows Server 2012 R1 through 2018
Intel® Pentium® IV or higher, 1.2 GHz minimum
- MacOS:
MacOS 10.6 through 10.12
Intel® Core i5 or higher, 1.2 GHz minimum
- Linux:
Any Linux distro which has support for the Linux Standard Base.
Intel® Pentium® IV or higher, 1.2 GHz minimum
Do I require an Internet connection to use Thinkbox licenses?¶
No. The license server will run without needing a connection to the Internet.
Can I host a license server in EC2?¶
You can, but you will need to create a Network Interface that can be attached to an instance that would hold the license server. You can check out the EC2 guide on creating one, and we also recommend reading the best practices to ensure you have the best chance of success.
What should I do if I have a conflict between two flexlm providers?¶
If you are running two license servers on the same machine with the same port, the best option is to change the port used by the license server daemon (lmgrd) by making a change to the license file. More information on this can be found in the License Server Installation section of the documentation.
Configuring licenses when installing via silent install flags¶
You should follow set up licensing paths manually though each Operating System has their own method for doing this. Check out the docs on setting the licensing path for more detailed explinations.
What do I do with a license file?¶
The answer to this depends on if it is a floating or node locked license. The Sales team should have mentioned which kind they sent, but you can also look in your license file. If the file says ‘uncounted’ then it is a node locked license, otherwise it’s a floating license.
For a floating license you would run the License Server Installation, provide it the location of the license you saved from the Sales email, and then let it install the server. Once it’s installed, you would tell the application you are trying to license what the name of the license server machine is.
For a node locked license, which can only be used on the machine it’s written for, you would save the file to the machine, and then tell the application where the file is located.
How do I specify multiple license servers?¶
What you would do is set your License Path to have multiple entries. For Windows the entries would be separated by a semi-colon(;), while on MacOS and Linux you would separate with a colon(:)
How many Draft Pro licenses are needed for encoding?¶
You only need one license for Draft Pro, though you will need Draft licenses to be able to do the actual renders. More information on Draft general licensing can be found in the its documentation.
